Which Viking controls show F1
VGSO166 36-inch gas single wall oven
F1, shorted probe: the control sees the oven temperature sensor circuit as shorted.

DSOE301SS, DDOE301SS and DDOE305SS electric wall ovens (EOC4 control)
F01, door latch: the lock is not open during cooking, or not closed during a clean.

Note what the oven was doing when F1 came up: baking or self-cleaning.

Check nothing stops the door closing flat against its seal, then switch the oven off.

One code, two controls
The VGSO166 gas wall oven reports its oven sensor as F1, F2 and F3. The EOC4 electric wall ovens use two-digit codes from F01 to F08, and there F01 is the door latch.
So the model number decides which row applies, not the code alone.
Stop and call if
- F1 or F01 returns every time the oven is switched back on.
- The door stays locked after the oven has gone cold.
- There is a scorched smell or discoloration around the control panel.

Does F1 mean the control board has failed?
Not usually. For F1 the VGSO166 service manual starts with the oven sensor's resistance, then the wiring to ground; it names no board check at all. Viking Repair Redmond tests sensor and wiring on one $89 visit, booked on (425) 585-2373.
Is it safe to keep cooking with F1 on the display?
Stop using the oven. The EOC4 table ranks F01 as a critical error and lists turning the cycle off and powering down as the action, and the VGSO166 remedy for F1 is a sensor or wiring repair. Clearing the code again fixes neither.
