Stop and call if

• The smell of gas stays after the burner is off: leave the kitchen and call the gas utility or 911 from outside.
• The door stays locked after the oven has cooled right down from a self-clean.
• The breaker trips a second time as the oven heats.
• The glass is cracked, or the door hangs open at one corner.

  On a gas oven with a glow-bar igniter, an igniter drawing under 3.2 amps still glows but opens the gas valve only part way. Self-clean gas models light by spark instead, so the check differs.

  The same F-number means different things on different Viking controls. On the ones we hold documents for, low codes mostly point at the sensor circuit, the door latch or the cooling fan. Look it up by model before anything is ordered.

• Bakes burn underneath and stay pale on top

  Dark, glass or oversized pans and foil on the rack cause this more often than a fault. With the pans ruled out, suspect a burner lighting late or a sensor reading wrong.

Codes, lamps and what they point at

A code on the display is the quickest start. The same F-number means different things on different Viking controls, so each one is worked through in the codes and readings reference. No code at all is just as common: a preheat light that never goes out, an oven that reads 25–50°F off, a lock light still lit after self-clean.
